NATCHITOCHES – The 956 Brass Trio will present a concert at Northwestern State University on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream of the concert will be available at nsula.edu/capa/capalivestream.
956 Brass includes Dr. Alexander Sanso on trumpet, Dr. Monica Martinez on horn and Dr. William Haugeberg on trombone. Sanso and Martinez are on the music faculty of the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley, Haugeberg is a former faculty member at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and now teaches at East Carolina University. They will give masterclasses on Thursday afternoon in Magale Recital Hall, the Orchestra room and Varnado Ballroom.
The program will include works by Anton Reicha, Gina Gillie, Ivette Herryman Rodriguez and Shanyse Strickland.
Sanso’s students at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley competed at the National Trumpet Competition in the small ensembles division performing Kevin McKee’s “Dürrenhorn” Passage. He was previously at Bowling Green State University as an adjunct instructor of trumpet for two years.
Haugeberg teaches applied trombone, trombone choir and brass methods. Previously he taught at Tarleton State University and Albany State University.
Martinez holds the third horn position with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and is also a member of Hill Country Brass and the newly formed Texas Chamber Winds. Recently, she was promoted to secretary of the Executive Advisory Council with the International Horn Society where she is responsible for carrying out the mission, vision, values and goals of the horn community worldwide.
