The Alumni Plaza represents the journey that students take as incoming freshman to becoming a proud alumni of Northwestern State University. Our first step is to gather in the Alumni Plaza for Freshman Connection to begin learning about the traditions and wonderful things NSU has to offer. We meet new friends and take in all of the sites and the excitement of the upcoming semester. Through our years as students we constantly pass through the plaza and stop to rest at one of the benches or admire the fountain. The benches that outline the Plaza are all dedicated to someone important to the university, and if you look closely their names are visible in the ironwork. My great grandfather’s name is placed in one of those benches to honor his memory and his dedication to Northwestern State University. When it comes time for us to graduate to alumni status, we lay a brick around the fountain next to all of those who have come before us. My brick is there and will be there as long as the three columns stand on our campus. NSU is a place you can leave your mark, but it will also leave its mark with you as you continue on your journey as a loyal alumnus.
