NATCHITOCHES – Captain Brittany Jeanice and Joe Duhon Jr. were recognized as Honorary Captains at Northwestern State University’s Homecoming football game Oct. 19. NSU recognizes those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces by inviting veterans and active duty service men and women to participate in the coin toss prior to all home football games.
Jeanice earned a bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science and was commissioned through NSU’s ROTC program in the Army Adjutant General Corps in 2013. An especially active student, she participated in Phi Mu Fraternity, the Student Activities Board, Blue Key Honor Society and the Purple Jackets. In 2016, she established the Jeanice Leadership and Excellence Scholarship for sophomore level ROTC cadets.
Jeanice is the Administrative Officer for 3rd Battalion, 353rd Regiment at Fort Polk. She has served over six years and was deployed to Iraq in 2016-2017.
Duhon has worked the NSU sideline chain crew for almost 40 years. Duhon is a 1976 NSU graduate who commissioned through the NSU ROTC program and achieved the rank of Captain, U.S. Army Infantry. He was a member of the Black Knights Drill Team and the Demon Marching Band.
Although Duhon and his wife Terri now live in Arkansas, he still makes the trek each home game to post the down marker. Joining the Joe and Terri Duhon were his father, Arthur Joe Duhon Sr., brother David; daughter Serena and their grandchildren.
Escorts were Lieutenant Colonel Wendell Bender, NSU ROTC Professor of Military Science, and Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Smalley, Northwestern Demon Regiment Chief of Staff.
