Students pursuing a degree in education are eligible for a new scholarship created for future teachers.  The Linda Gale and Henry H. Lemoine Jr. Scholarship will be awarded to an education major at any level attending Northwestern State University.

Linda Gale, born in 1947, and Henry Jr., born in 1949, were reared near Clarence and both graduated from Northwestern State, Linda Gale in 1968 and Henry in 1970.

Linda Gale worked at Oakdale Elementary School, teaching third grade and fourth grade math and social studies.

“She was dedicated to the education of elementary age students. The love for her students was evidenced by her hard work tireless energy that she spent on a daily basis,” said her nephew, Sean Lemoine, a Dallas-based attorney and a 1994 graduate of NSU.  He and his sister, Dr. Tara Lemoine, established the scholarship to celebrate the love Henry had for Linda Gale and her love of teaching. Their hope is that it will assist other people with a passion for teaching to carry on Linda Gale’s legacy.

Henry H. Lemoine Jr. graduated law school from LSU and took his first job in Many.  He practiced law for over 40 years, based out of Pineville.  He was city attorney and city judge for Pineville and he had a long standing interest in helping children swept into the juvenile justice system.  He passed away Feb. 21, 2021.
