NATCHITOCHES – Dr. Albina Khaliapova and Dr. Eduard Teregulov will present a chamber music recital dedicated to music by women composers at Northwestern State University on Friday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. University COVID protocols will be in effect. Those attending are asked to wear a mask. The recital is a part of the Women in Music concert series which aims to promote music by female composers and bring more diversity in classical music programming.
The program features music by composers from the 20th-21st centuries including Polina Nazaykinskaya, Rebecca Clarke, Alina Akhmetova, Galina Ustvolskaya and Florence Price.
Khaliapova is an educator, soloist, recitalist, collaborative pianist and piano instructor. She is a prize winner in competitions in both Europe and North America, including the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival (Fort Collins, Colorado, 2015), International Music Competition ‘Citta Di Barletta’ (Italy, 2012), International Competition ‘Music Without Limits’ (Lithuania, 2008), and International Competition ‘Art of the 21st Century’ (Ukraine, 2001).
Born into a musical family, Khaliapova developed an acute musical sensitivity and a natural aptitude for the piano. Influenced by her mother, who is a piano teacher, she started her first music lessons at home at the age of four. By the age of seven, she was already admitted to the Secondary Special Music School in Russia, where she made her solo debut with an orchestra.
Khaliapova received a Master of Music degree from the University of South Florida, where she held a teaching assistant position and was awarded a President’s Piano Trio fellowship and a Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University.
As a leader of Homegrown New Music Ensemble dedicated to performing music by living composers Khaliapova works closely with contemporary composers. She is currently in process of commissioning works from several composers including Dr. Mara Gibson, Akhmetova, Hannah Rice, Michael Standard, and others.
Teregulov is a soloist, chamber performer, and cello instructor. Winner of Youth String Competition in Russia, International competition “Citta Di Barletta” in Italy, and NOLA Chamber Fest in the United States, he enjoys his career as a contemporary and classical cellist. He is a member of the Homegrown New Music Ensemble and Constantinides New Music Ensemble.
In addition to performing traditional repertoire, Eduard is an advocate for contemporary music. He actively collaborates with living composers from the United States and around the world.
Teregulov has played in various orchestras in both Russia and the United States, including National Symphony Orchestra of Bashkortostan, Symphony Orchestra of Opera and Ballet Theater of Bashkortostan, Chamber Orchestra “Bashkortostan”, Youth International Symphony Orchestra of the Volga Region, Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, South Shore Symphony Orchestra in Tampa Bay, Baton Rouge Civic Orchestra and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
Teregulov holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Education from Ufa State Academy of Arts in Russia, his Master of Music degree from the University of South Florida, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance from Louisiana State University.
