NATCHITOCHES – The 2022 Caddo Conference will be held on the Northwestern State University campus April 1-3. Archaeologists, ethnologists, historians and members of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma, whose tribal homeland is southwest Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, northwest Louisiana and East Texas, will gather to discuss ongoing research and cultural developments in Caddo culture.
Presenters this year come from Arkansas, Oklahoma, East Texas and Louisiana. Individual presentations, group discussions and book and table displays will offer information related to the history, archaeology, culture and language of the Caddo Indians and the area of the Caddo homelands in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. The Caddo Culture Club will present their sacred Turkey Dance at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2 and will host a social dance at 6:30 p.m. Caddo artists will be on hand for demonstrations and with items to sell. Books from the East Texas Archaeological Society and other organizations will also be for sale.
