NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University Greeks celebrated Greek Week with a series of activities that combined service with fund raising to benefit local philanthropies. Students participated in Song Fest and Penny Wars to raise more than $1,300 to divide between three local causes, the Natchitoches Boys and Girls Club, Women’s Resource Center and NIA Community Initiative.
NSU Greeks presented the Boys and Girls Club of Natchitoches with a donation to support programming that serves youngsters age 6 through high school with after school games, art and STEM projects, snacks, help with homework, recreation and enrichment at the Ben Johnson Center. NSU Greek Week raised funds for three local philanthropies, including the Women’s Resource Center, which offers services, assistance and guidance for young women facing unplanned pregnancies. Northwestern State University Greeks presented a donation to NIA (Natchitoches in Action) Community Initiative, which offers resources for youth in rural and impoverished communities through academic assistance, juvenile justice alternatives and child nutrition. NIA coordinates a backpack project in which volunteers pack backpacks with food and snacks for students to take home.
