The LAATTC@NSU has received funding from the Gulf Coast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (GCATTC: Louisiana, Texas & New Mexico) & The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals – Office for Addictive Disorders (DHH – OAD).

The National Addiction Technology Transfer Center and Regional Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (Map of ATTCs), are funded by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Center Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). The primary purpose of the ATTCs are for unifying science, education, and service to transform lives.

The LAATTC@NSU office is located in Room 311 of Bienvenu Hall on the campus of Northwestern State University in beautiful, historic, Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The Louisiana Addiction Technology Transfer Center (LAATTC) is a nationwide, multidisciplinary resource that draws upon the knowledge, experience, and latest work of recognized experts in the field of addictions. Launched in 1993 by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), under the guiding entity, Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the network today is comprised of 14 independent regional centers and a National ATTC Office. The LAATTC works in conjunction with the Addiction Research Institute.

Although the size and areas of emphasis of the individual centers may vary, each is charged as is the network collectively with three key objectives:

  • to increase the knowledge and skills of addiction treatment practitioners from multiple disciplines by facilitating access to state-of-the-art research and education;
  • to heighten the awareness, knowledge, and skills of all professionals who have the opportunity to intervene in the lives of people with substance use disorders;
  • to foster regional and national alliances among practitioners, researchers, policy makers, funders, and consumers to support and implement best treatment practices

The Leadership Institute is an intense leadership preparation program designed to cultivate the development of future addiction leaders. It provides professional development through a combination of evidenced-based training seminars, distance learning, and completion of a project within a six-month timeframe. Each individual partners with a mentor offering expertise vital in facilitating the development of future leaders.

The purpose of the LAATTC@NSU’s Informational Resources is to allow you the opportunity to increase your knowledge, skills, and/or attitudes concerning the continuum of care (prevention, intervention, treatment, and/or tertiary treatment) in the areas of use, abuse, and addiction of substances. We hope that this area of our web sites allows you the opportunity to review current information to better assist you in working with others.
