NATCHITOCHES – The Louisiana Scholars’ College at Northwestern State University will hold the Scholars’ Day on Saturday, March 4. The event is designed to give prospective students and their parents an up-close look at what it means to attend the state’s Designated Honors College and to be a scholar.
Scholars’ Day begins at 9 a.m. outside Morrison Hall with a welcome, the introduction of faculty and an overview of the curriculum and concentrations from Director Dr. Tyler Travillian.
An academic and organizational browse follows at 10 a.m. in which students can meet representatives from majors they are interested in studying and learn about the many co-curricular opportunities on campus.
At 11 a.m., students and parents will have an opportunity to hear, each from their own panel of current scholars, about the life and experience of the College from the students’ perspective, with lunch following immediately under the trees.
Sample classes and seminars beginning at 1 p.m. conclude Scholars’ Day. Parents and students may choose to attend any of four current courses being offered in the Scholars’ College: Texts and Traditions II, Understanding Violence, Ancient Greek or Sociobiology and the Evolution of Sex. Students and parents then have the opportunity for campus tours and to attend the Northwestern State baseball and softball games that follow.
