NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s 36th annual Research Day will return to a face-to-face format after two years of virtual conferences on Thursday, April 13. Students will make synchronous oral presentations on research in many academic disciplines culminating as an awards program.
“We will have 30 oral presentations plus three brief, five-minute presentations and eight posters,” said Dr. Margaret Cochran, faculty coordinator. “Two posters, one longer talk and one brief talk will be delivered to the face-to-face sessions virtually so distance learning students and faculty can participate.”
Presenters represent 10 departments in three colleges, as well as Watson Library and Northwestern’s Institutional Review Board.
Oral presentations will take place in Morrison Hall Rooms 115, 146 and 221 from 8:15 a.m.-12:20 p.m. The program announcing research awards will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom with a poster session immediately following.
The Phi Kappa Phi Student Research Awards consists of a $500 cash prize. The award recognizes outstanding research, distinguished artistic performance or creative work completed by a student, or team of students, while enrolled at NSU. Both undergraduate and graduate students may be nominated.
The Dr. Marietta Lebreton Louisiana Studies Award honors faculty members whose careers have been dedicated to research regarding Louisiana topics. The Dr. Mildred Hart Bailey Faculty Research Award recognizes outstanding research or distinguished artistic performance or creative work substantially completed within the past three years. The Dr. Jean D’Amato Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award honors senior faculty members whose careers have included a significant commitment to research and service to their discipline.
