Northwestern State University’s Elementary Lab School opened spring 2023 Field Day competition May 16 with a ceremony to recognize public servants and others with a theme of “Heroes in Training.” Joined by family, friends, volunteers, local law enforcement and first responders, students began with the Pledge of Allegiance, following by the national anthem performed by fifth graders Kennedy Wilkerson, Braylee Johnson, Catherine Wilkerson, Landry Barbier, Brenyn Wilson, Khloe Kaufman and Anna Todtenbier, accompanied by Dr. Samuel Stokes.
Student representatives from each grade level at NSU Elementary Lab held a Hero Walk to recognize groups they consider to be heroes during opening ceremonies of Field Day competition May 16. Honoring military heroes were fifth graders led by Brenley Smith and Brenyn Wilson. Honoring medical professionals were fourth graders led by Alice Harrington and Bralyn Chasteen. Honoring law enforcement were third graders led by Parker Martin and Kylee Cabarello. Honoring firefighters were second graders led by Trey Williams and Georgia Wilkerson. Honoring teachers were first graders led by Juniper Zamora and Hadley Jemerson. Honoring parents were kindergarteners led by Oakley Theriot and Emma Hammons.
