NATCHITOCHES – Edgar Cano, assistant professor of Fine and Graphic Arts at Northwestern State University, has been selected to participate in LeMieux Galleries “And Now for Something New”, Vol. 6, a juried exhibition that will take place from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 in New Orleans.

The opening will take place during the 30th annual White Linen Night, a popular and prestigious event that transforms Julia Street, a hotspot for art lovers in the New Orleans Warehouse District, into a hub of artistic energy with a multitude of galleries opening their doors after hours, live music performances and captivating art installations.

Gallery Director and Co-Owner Christy Wood started “And Now for Something New” in 2018 to bring new artists into the gallery and broaden the scope of the gallery’s existing roster beyond the Southern U.S. The 2024 jurors are Jason Andreasen, president and CEO of Baton Rouge Gallery, and Elizabet Elliott artist and executive director/curator at Alabama Contemporary Art Center.

“The show features 17 artists from across the U.S. including my work, which is a triptych, which, could work as separate pieces,” Cano said. “These paintings are short of contemporary narrative about three characters, named in coincidence with the old scriptures Adan, Eve and Lilith.”

Cano actively seeks spaces and exhibitions to show his work to set an example for his students. In two decades of art production, he has earned numerous awards in national and international competitions. Most recently he was recognized as Best In Show at the 61st Juried show of the Masur Museum at Monroe and Best In Show from the Baton Rouge Gallery at the 16th Surreal Salon. Cano has earned many scholarships to support his art and is a member of the National System of Art Creators. He received the Prize of the Rufino Tamayo Biennial in 2016.
