NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Department of Military Science hosted a commissioning ceremony Monday for ROTC Cadet Arianna Astorga of New Iberia. Astorga graduated from NSU with a bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science with a concentration in pre-occupational therapy and a minor in military leadership. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, selected the Quartermaster Corps and will serve with the U.S. Army Reserve.
Astorga is a 2020 graduate of Westgate High School where she excelled as a scholar and athlete. At NSU, she was a member of National Honor Society, Order of Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Student Government Association and Purple Pizzazz Pom Lie. She worked as a trainer for the Demon football team and was a President’s List and Dean’s List student. She also volunteered in many campus fund raisers and service projects and assisted with the Boys and Girls Club and JROTC Drill Meets.
After joining the Demon Battalion and graduating from U.S. Army Cadet Command Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Astorga completed Cadet Troop Leader Training at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, with the 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion. For her accomplishments and leadership abilities, she received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award. She also served as the Battalion’s logistics officer, administration officer and executive officer.
She will attend Logistics Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia.
