The Invitational Band Festival at Northwestern State University is an opportunity for concert bands from around the region to showcase their talents in the acoustically treated Magale Recital Hall with a visiting guest composer and clinicians. The event is held in the Spring semester and involves a simple application process allowing a committee, consisting of the Band Faculty and upperclassmen Music Education Majors, to adjudicate and select ensembles to the event. In 2025 we anticipate increasing participation from three to six ensembles.

Each band is strongly encouraged to perform at least one work by the visiting composer and limit their entire performance to 25 minutes. Additionally, bands will also be encouraged to listen to and support another band before or after their performance. The NSU Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will perform for visiting bands in a rehearsal setting and/or concert setting as schedules permit.
