NATCHITOCHES – A closing reception for artists juried into Northwestern State University’s annual Hotter N Hell national juried art competition will be held on Friday, January 24 from 7-9 p.m in Hanchey Gallery.

The premise for the competition is that all entries must involve heat or fire. This year’s exhibition was juried by artist David Chatt, a bead and glass sculptor from North Carolina (Davidchatt.com).

Chatt selected 30 pieces for the exhibition, which has been on display since November 2024.

“It is always a privilege and a daunting responsibility to be a juror,” Chatt said. “I hope I was able to offer some valuable insight but there is always the thing that haunts you… what if I missed something.  I can tell you that jurying this show was not an easy task.  I struggled between too many choices.  There was some work that rose to the very top of my list only to be challenged by another.”
