NATCHITOCHES – It’s not too early to save the date for Northwestern State University’s 2025 Military Ball. The program will be Saturday, April 12 in the Sylvan Friedman Student Union. This year’s event will be a celebration of the 75th anniversary of NSU’s ROTC program.
A cocktail hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. that will include recognition of senior cadets and Demon Battalion Alumni.
The tradition of the military ball resonates with cadets and alumni who view the event as a time to reflect on accomplishments, celebrate the battalion’s history and honor the legacy of all Demon Battalion cadets.
“A ball in a few words is hard to explain – the culture, the esprit de corps, the planning. As a cadet, I didn’t fully realize the importance and impact balls would have as memories of the Demon Battalion,” said Brittany Jeanice, a 2013 graduate of NSU’s ROTC program now serving as a U.S. Army workforce management specialist stationed in Grafenwöhr, Germany. “Our Battalion had its fair share of losses with three of our teammates passing either during my time as a cadet or shortly after. Through balls and visiting the Demon Battalion, I am able to remember the lives of those who had an impact on me as a cadet.”
“The Military Ball is a special occasion that highlights the camaraderie, tradition and pride of being part of the Demon Battalion,” said Cadet Caiden Mathews of Shreveport, a graduating senior who is serving as Battalion Commander. “For me, it’s also a meaningful opportunity to reunite with alumni, strengthen bonds and create lasting memories as we celebrate the Battalion’s 75th anniversary.”
Reginald L. Horton who served in the U.S. Army on active duty as an enlisted soldier and in the Army Reserve as an officer for a combined 34 years, the military ball brings memories and provides an opportunity reunite with old friends and make new friends.
“It also means a great deal to me to attend and support the new and upcoming cadets as well as the cadets who are seniors who will be graduating soon and starting their careers as newly minted 2nd Lieutenants,” Horton said.
