The cast is Jay Trosclair of Bourg as Ann, Valerie Henderson of Covington as Brenda and Abbigail Delanoix of Denham Springs as Penelope. Sean Bartley is the director.
In the play, Ann is stuck in her dead-end meatpacking job, in her rural South Dakota town, and deep in the closet. A series of three gurus arrive to push her into action: her new romantic interest, a taxidermist named Brenda, her hero and the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley, and her hero’s hero, the Man In the Arena, President Theodore Roosevelt. As they embark on a hallucinatory road trip from Mount Rushmore to the Badlands to Graceland, the women and their leading men discover who they were, who they are and who they can become.
The TEAM (Theatre of the Emerging American Moment) is a Brooklyn-based ensemble of artists dedicated to creating new work about the experience of living in America today. NSU’s production of their play “RoosevElvis” features a mix of pre-filmed projection sequences inspired by “Thelma and Louise,” “Viva Las Vegas” and other great American road trip films, livestreamed video capture and in-person live performance, blurring the lines between stage play and movie.
