NATCHITOCHES – A simple act of kindness earned Justin Lee of Natchitoches a special recognition following his experience as an NFL Teammate volunteer at Super Bowl LIX. Lee was named a Teammate MVP by MOONSHOT, the provider of customer service training for the NFL. He is one of only 10 out of the approximately 1,500 students involved in this year’s Super Bowl to earn the honor.
Lee and 28 other NSU students from Northwestern State University’s Department of Health and Human Performance and the Hospitality Management and Tourism program experienced the Feb. 9 game in New Orleans as NFL Teammate volunteers. They were selected for positions to help with guest experience, staff gear distribution and wayfinding, according to Dr. Haley Blount, the HHP professor who helped orchestrate the opportunity and nominated Lee for “exemplifying the NFL Fans First Quality Standard of Hospitality.”
Lee was assigned Stadium Fan Services Operations inside the Super Dome on game day.
“He noticed a young child in the foyer crying just outside our work area. The child’s parents/guardians were trying to calm him down with little luck. Justin walked over and gave the child his commemorative Super Bowl LIX pin and the boy immediately stopped crying and was so excited. The boy’s parents were very thankful for Justin’s act of kindness as well. It was a simple gesture, but a touching and selfless moment,” Blount said.
When selecting Teammates for Super Bowl week, the NFL looks for individuals who are friendly, reliable and team oriented. Captains provide leadership serving as a point of contact for each shift, assisting media, fans and other jobs as necessary.
“Going to the Super Bowl was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Lee said. “Not only being able to see the Super Bowl in person, but be able to help behind the scenes, is something that I will never forget.”
