NATCHITOCHES – An art show by Northwestern State University graduate student Corinne Webster of State College, Pennsylvania, titled “Kindred Connections” will be in display in Gallery 2 on the second floor of the Fine Arts Annex through July 15. Admission is free and open to the public. Gallery 2 is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Webster based her work around life’s journey and its moments, line and thought.
“I have found that all of our outside influences contribute to our creative journey,” she said. “Looking into the past has been a way to provide a connection that transcends what has been and catapults it into what will be. This reciprocity of the spiritual as well as the cultural, environmental and history of a person all contribute to their making journey.”
According to Webster, this revelation created a very natural relationship with her process of creation. Webster used heritage techniques like natural dye, sewing and quilting.
“ I was able to blend together pieces that not only encompass my environment, in Central Pennsylvania, but the whole of my experience. Because all the facets of life are connected – reality, dreams, history, facts, fiction, divinity and falsehood. I am but a product of what came before, and what will come to pass impacts my spiritual beingness. What else are we but Kindred Connections?”
