NATCHITOCHES – The Celebration of Diversity Concert Series will begin its season with a performance celebrating the diverse repertoire of Latin American and Iberian composers on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.
Faculty participating in the concert are Dr. Chialing Hsieh, Dan Ley and Dr. Francis Yang on piano, soprano Dr. Terrie Sanders and Dr. J. Mark Thompson on trombone.
Student performers will be David Barrocal Barrios and Bertilia Ramirez Castellanos on piano, vocalists Emilie Comeaux, Douglas Flores, Allison Flores Reyes, Dilen Smith and Carlomagno León Jimenez, Jalima Diaz on oboe, Jelsson Flores on horn, Karla Gonzalez Bueno on double bass, Gabriel Polo Gomez on voice and guitar and Santiago Uribe-Cardona on cello.
Upcoming concerts include a celebration of the musical work of Trans and Non-Binary composers on October 18, an evening of works by Black composers on February 2 and a concert with repertoire by women composers on March 7.
Guest artist soprano Dr. Liliana Guerrero will perform works by Latinx composers on March 15. The final concert of the series for this academic year on March 21 is a celebration of some of history’s most influential women through music and art.
