NATCHITOCHES – The Circadiano dance troupe of Chile will perform at Northwestern State University on Friday, Sept. 20 in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. The event begins with a dance/film presentation at 6 p.m. followed by a conversation with the artist and the performance at 7 p.m. Circadiano’s appearance is sponsored by the NSU Department of Theatre and Dance. Admission is free and open to the public.
The choreography is by Valentina Kappes and Ignacio Díaz. Kappes and Diaz are the performers along with Benjamín Carriquiry and Diego Álvarez Llanquimán.
Circadiano is inspired by circadian rhythms, which in biology are the natural cycle of changes that the body experiences at different intervals of time. On stage, a creature has been thrown out of orbit, has lost the order of the terrestrial organism, and has undergone continuous reorganizations stimulated by sunlight and the passage of time. It establishes emotional relationships with invisible beings and travels through unknown ecosystems.
The work began its research process in 2021 in a residency at the Bailarines de Los Ríos Cultural Center in Valdivia, Chile, and continued in a technical residency at Centro Nave in Santiago, Chile
Circadiano is making its U.S. premiere on this tour.
