NATCHITOCHES – A team from Donnie Bickham Middle School in Shreveport won this year’s Fall Robotics Competition, an annual event hosted by Northwestern State University’s Department of Engineering Technology.  Caddo Middle Magnet won second place and North DeSoto Middle won third.  Stephanie Mason, team sponsor from North DeSoto, was named STEM Teacher of the Year.

This year’s theme was “Inspired by NASA’s Artemis Base Camp on the Moon,” which needs light, water and elevation, according to Dr. Shahriar Hossain, professor and interim department head. Students designed robots to compete in tests of speed, accuracy, maze, strength and tug of war.

Engineering Technology faculty demonstrated an automobile drive shaft designed and created by NSU students in the department.  The awards were designed and created in NSU’s ET lab using laser technology.  The competition provides an opportunity to showcase degree programs and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, Hossain said.
