Academic college/department: College of Business & Technology/Accounting
Number of years at Northwestern State: 6
Why is teaching important to you? I was raised in a family of educators. Education and learning both in and out of the classroom was emphasized and valued. I believe in life-long learning. Striving to learn more about the people and world around you makes you a better person, citizen and steward of our resources and overall a better human being.
Why do you believe you are an effective teacher? I believe I have the ability get on the level of the students and explain things in a way to help them better understand. I am never afraid of trying something new or finding new ways to accommodate different learning styles.
As a teacher, what brings you a feeling of accomplishment when working with students? I think it is a natural thing to want others to be passionate about the things we are passionate about. It satisfies me greatly when a student tells me that they have a better understanding and appreciation for accounting because of the way it has been presented to them.
Have the last 2-3 years made you a better teacher? I think yes. It has presented the opportunity to look and reflect on the way our material is presented and come up with new and better methods. I think anytime we are challenged or given unforeseen obstacles, we grow and learn.
