As part of our academic support of incoming freshmen, we require every student with less than 30 hours completed at NSU to register through an advisor. This ensures that they do not sign up for courses that they don’t need or for which they may not be prepared.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a process where credit hours may be earned at NSU through an intensive portfolio writing course (IDS 3000) for life, work, or volunteer experience determined to be college level learning.
Northwestern offers courses in 8-week sessions during the fall and spring, which allows the student to focus on one or two courses at a time. During the summer, courses are offered in four and eight week sessions. The online course format provides flexibility and convenience for adult learners.
