Moodle Fundamentals

In this workshop, we will cover the breadth of available options within the LMS and demonstrate the basic tools needed for implementing a Moodle course.

 

Course Overview & Introduction

The Course Overview area is the first part of the course that the students will see, but probably the last thing you will create.  In this workshop, we will discuss the items that should be included within a Course Overview area to effectively orient your students in your course.  This workshop is part of our Master Course Creator series.  In order to earn the related badge for attendance, you will be asked to complete an assignment related to the content.

 

Outlook: Bring Order to Your Inbox

Overwhelmed by our inbox? Want to optimize the way you use email day to day? Discover features built into Outlook that will help you organize your workflow and reduce clutter. Tools we cover include signatures, rules, flags, and calendar organization.

 

Creating Quizzes in Moodle

Create different types of questions for variety and interactivity in your exams; Setup your quizzes to be administered easily and efficiently. See how to review the results of your student and manage their participation within quizzes.

 

Rubrics

Thursday, January 9th, 2 – 3 pm

If you have ever struggled with the details of how to grade an assignment, this workshop is for you.  We will discuss how to create a rubric that will help students understand the assignment, while also making grading easier for you.  Bring a rubric or assignment to this workshop and you will receive feedback that you can apply immediately to improve your course.

 

Sharing Content in Moodle

In this workshop, we will demonstrate how to link and share videos and files stored in VIC, Stream, and OneDrive to your Moodle Courses.  We will show you how to share content effectively and efficiently in your courses.

 

Managing Your Gradebook

Friday, January 10th, 10:00 – 11:30 am

You can set up your gradebook two ways, total points possible or weighted. In this workshop we will cover the benefits and challenges of each. You will also learn how to easily calculate student progress, enter grades, and view overall grades so that you and your students can track progress during the course.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to best practices for choosing and creating video resources and implementing them in your course.  We will also cover how to ensure that your video content is accessible for all learners.

Would you like an easy (and free) tool to make your lecture presentations more engaging to your students?  PowerPoint is now equipped with valuable tools to record lectures, and add video and interactive content, such as quiz questions or web sites, to any presentation.  In this workshop, you will learn how to record using PowerPoint.

 

Stream

To register for courses via WebEx:

  1. Go to nsula.webex.com and sign in.
  2. Click on the Webex Training menu item on the bottom left of the page.
  3. In the left-hand menu, beneath Attend a Session, click List of Sessions.
  4. Click the Upcoming tab to see a list of the sessions with the date and times, click Register next to the one you would like to attend.
  5. Complete the registration.

You will receive an email confirmation after you have registered with the link you will use to join the session. To cancel your registration, click the link at the bottom of the registration email.
