NATCHITOCHES – Lafayette High was named Grand Champion of the 31st annual Classic on the Cane Marching Contest held in Turpin Stadium at Northwestern State University. More than 5,000 spectators watched 33 high school bands from Louisiana and Texas take part in the day-long competition, which was livestreamed at banddirector.com. The event was sponsored by the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, which performed at the conclusion of the competition, and the Band House Music Store.
West Monroe was second followed by Canton (Texas), Parkway, and 2018 champion E.D. White.
Lafayette was named Best in Class in Classification IV with West Monroe in second and Parkway in third. Parkway earned the outstanding percussion award. Lafayette received the outstanding auxiliary award.
Canton was the first-place band in Classification III with E.D. White second and Acadiana third. E.D. White had the outstanding percussion section and the outstanding auxiliary section.
In Classification II, Tioga was Best in Class followed by Central and Pineville. Tioga received the outstanding auxiliary award and outstanding percussion award.
Ruston earned first place in Classification 1A with St. Michael second and Franklin Parish in third. Ruston earned the outstanding percussion award and Sterlington received the outstanding auxiliary award.
Delcambre received first place in Classification 1B while Many was second and Buckeye was third. Delcambre earned the outstanding percussion award and Buckeye received the outstanding auxiliary award.
