NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University is providing accommodations in a campus residence hall to house 170 linemen supporting SWEPCO and resources from AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power, Indiana & Michigan Power and Kentucky Power this week as crews work to restore electricity to the Shreveport metro area. Through cooperation with Sodexo and Campus Living Villages, the workers are also provided breakfast, dinner and lunch-to-go. Administrators expected the crew to remain through Thursday. Parts of Shreveport have been without power since powerful winds ripped through the area last week. Officials at SWEPCO said about 94,000 customers in the Shreveport-Bossier City area and the northwest corner of the state were without power as of Sunday, June 18. About 180,000 total customers, around 99,000 of which are in Louisiana, still were without power at that time.
