Maggio urges NSU family to stay focused as semester’s end draws near

NATCHITOCHES – With the end of the semester in sight and registration for the Spring 2021 semester underway, Northwestern State University President Dr. Chris Maggio offered words of encouragement to students, faculty and staff.

“As we near the end of 2020, I encourage everyone to stay focused,” Maggio said. “So much has happened this year to disrupt our everyday lives and normal operations, but now is the time to finish strong and bring this year to a good conclusion. I continue to be impressed with the steadfastness of the university community and the resilience of our students. It’s been a challenge for all of us.”

NSU will be closed Thanksgiving week, with in-person and on-classes resuming Monday, Nov. 30.  The last day of classes is Friday, Dec. 4 with final exams scheduled for Dec. 5-10.

“Most classes this semester are virtual or hybrid and we will continue our safety protocols on campuses during the last week of classes prior to finals beginning on Saturday, Dec. 5,” Maggio said.

The university will host a series of five carefully planned, socially distanced commencement ceremonies Dec. 17-18 for spring, summer and fall graduates. The ceremonies will all be ticketed events with Prather Coliseum limited to 25 percent capacity.  Information on commencement is available at https://www.nsula.edu/graduation/.

“We are doing all that we can to remain vigilant with our COVID-19 safety protocols and we ask for everyone’s patience, understanding and cooperation during our commencement ceremonies,” Maggio said.

Registration for the spring semester is available through Jan. 10, 2021. Late registration will be held Jan. 11-20, 2021. Spring classes start on Jan. 11, 2021.  For more information on spring registration at Northwestern State, go to nsula.edu/registrar.

“My hope is for the university family to enjoy a restful and safe Thanksgiving break and return with the finish line in sight,” Maggio said. “We’ve almost made it through this turbulent year and look forward to wrapping up the semester and celebrating our graduates.”
