NATCHITOCHES – The School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University will host the Megan Guillory Vocal Excellence Scholarship Concert on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Nine NSU students, who were nominated by vocal faculty, will perform to determine the 2020-21 recipients of the Guillory Scholarship. The students are Valentina Herazo-Alvarez, Carlomagno Leon Jimenez, Kylie Dornbush, Landry Allen, Sarah Palmintier, Jayvian Bush, Lee Whitney, Emily Saldivar and Emily Adams. At the end of the concert, Guillory will determine the recipients, who will be announced at a reception in the Orville Hanchey Gallery. 2019-20 recipients Emily Adams and Michelle Moline will also perform. Amanda Charles is also a 2019-20 recipient, but will not be able to participate.
The scholarship was established by Guillory, a vocal and choir student at Northwestern State in 2016 after she attended an event honoring long-time Director of Choral Activities Dr. Burt Allen. Her desire to reward talented students led to the establishment of talent-based scholarships to benefit students majoring in vocal performance. She worked with voice faculty in the School of Creative and Performing Arts to set up the scholarship. The faculty audition students who seek the award.
