NATCHITOCHES – Dr. Patrice Moulton, president of the Louisiana Fulbright Chapter, accepted the Fulbright Association’s National Service Award on behalf of the chapter at the Fulbright Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The Fulbright organization highlighted several service projects that the Louisiana Fulbright Chapter had completed including author talks, poetry readings, recovery projects in Ida torn communities and the feeding of 500-600 people a Thanksgiving meal in a devastated community on the coast below New Orleans. Currently, there are 56 chapters representing Fulbright around the United States.
Moulton, professor of psychology at Northwestern State University, has served as president of the Louisiana chapter since 2020.
“It is one of the great honors of my life to belong to the global family of Fulbrighters,” Moulton said. “Fulbright is known for their international exchange programs and working for peace around the world. As individuals return from their international experience, they dedicate time within their state doing service projects.”
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
The Fulbright program provides participants who are chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
Moulton received a Fulbright Award in 2017 for her work in Nepal, where she served as a consultant and cultural ambassador while launching the country’s inaugural degree program in counseling psychology.
As president of the Louisiana chapter, Moulton serves on the Fulbright Association Chapter Advisory Board, leads the executive board for the state of Louisiana, develops membership, administers the social media communication tools of the Fulbright Association and directs activities in Louisiana for networking, service and education related to Fulbright initiatives.
Moulton served as a Fulbright Specialist to Nepal in 2018 and has been a member of the Fulbright Association since her return as a Fulbright alumna.
State chapters provide Fulbright alumni and visiting Fulbrighters with diverse opportunities for networking, professional development, mentoring, cultural enrichment, and community service.
