The Chamber Orchestra is directed by Douglas Bakenhus and Andrej Kurti.

The program includes Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 4” with soloists Emilio Castro on violin, Tucker Uebersax on flute and Parrel Appolis on flute and “Petite Symphonie’ by Ch. Gounod with soloists Cecilia Linares on flute, Yesenia Zapata and Joel Ramos on oboe, Richard Carrillo and Kaylin Butler on clarinet, Kristoff Hairr and Turner Sugg on bassoon and Angie Mejia and Jelsson Flores on horn. Also on the program are “Concerto Grosso, in G Major, Op. 6. No. 1” G.F. Handel with soloists Castro and Carlos Diaz del Valle on violin and Jesus Calderon on cello and Mozart’s “Divertimento in D Major, K. 136.”

According to Bakenhus, the Bach Brandenburg No. 4 has two flutes, and one violin soloist accompanied by a small group of six violins, three violas, three cellos, two basses and a harpsichord. Bakenhus said this concerto is one of Bach’s masterpieces with very virtuosic solo parts especially the violin solo that graduate student Emilio Castro “plays with dazzling brilliance.”

Bakenhus said the Gounod “Petite Suite” is “a delightful French piece for nine wind instruments. It is a little symphony in the size of the ensemble and in scope of the structure.”

Handel’s “Concerto Grosso,” has three soloists, two violins and a cello. Bakenhus calls it “a masterpiece. It is very fun to play as well as listen to.”

The work by Mozart “is an incredible masterpiece written in Salzburg by the 16-year-old genius.”
