NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern Theatre and Dance will perform “Songs for a New World” Nov. 6-10 and 13-16 in Theatre West. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6-9 and 13-16 with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on Nov. 10. Tickets are $15 and $12 for students and senior citizens. Northwestern State, BPCC@NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free with a current I.D. and sticker. Seats are limited and reservations are required. Tony award winner Jason Robert Brown’s first musical “Songs for a New World” is a theatrical song cycle spun around the theme of transformation and hope. Each song is a different scene in which the characters have to decide to “be safe or be free.” Featuring a plethora of musical styles, “Songs for a New World” addresses pertinent topics including immigration, war, poverty and death while assuring us that “a new world calls in the darkness.
