NATCHITOCHES – Kevin Robinson of Shreveport has been invited to join the 2024 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nov. 21-24. Robinson is a sophomore at Northwestern State University majoring in Hospitality Management and Tourism with a concentration in culinary arts and a pitcher on the Demon Baseball team.
Each school in the Southland Conference nominates a male and female representative to participate in the forum. The conference then selects one male and one female athlete to represent the SLC among student-athletes from every conference in the U.S.
“I’m honored to be selected to be the male representative for the Southland Conference at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum,” Robinson said. “I appreciate Northwestern State University for nominating me and giving me this opportunity. I look forward to learning alongside fellow student-athletes and enhancing my leadership skills to help thrive personally, professionally and athletically.”
The NCAA Student-Athlete Forum provides a diverse representation of student-athletes, coaches and administrators with an opportunity to build a leadership toolkit and develop self-awareness. Participants leave the program with leadership skills, an exploration of values, beliefs and behavioral styles and an understanding of the NCAA as a whole and the value of Student-Athlete Advisory Committees. The forum also creates a network of like-minded peers for continued connection and dialogue.
Robinson has served as the NSU Baseball representative on the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was an assistant U16 coach for the NW Louisiana Prospect Elevation Camp where he helped with practice and worked to improve team unity, sportsmanship and parent/player communication. On campus, he is involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NSU Baptist Collegiate Ministry, NSU Presidential Leadership Program and 1 of 7, a community service group.
Robinson is also involved with the Young Adults of Louisiana Ministry as a prayer and leadership team member and has served as a camp counselor at middle and high school summer church camps. He is a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport where he serves as event services liaison with the church’s Director of Operations and as a Vacation Bible School volunteer. He has participated in mission trips to England, Colorado, New Mexico, Tennessee and a DFW refugee camp.
Since 2022, Robinson has been owner, operator and chef for K-Rob’s Kitchen where he creates and manages social media content, organizes orders and delivery, bakes items to sell and manages payments and bookkeeping. He hopes to eventually work in the restaurant industry.
“Kevin embodies what it means to be a student-athlete,” said NSU Director of Athletics Kevin Bostion. “He is going to do big things on and off the field for the rest of his time at NSU and beyond.”
“I hope to bring back some valuable information to share with others on our campus,” Robinson said. “I’m grateful for the guidance of my mentors, [Vice President of the Student Experience and Dean of Students] Reatha Cox, [NSU Pitching] Coach Dan Hlad and [Head Baseball] Coach Chris Bertrand, who have been instrumental in my development,” Robinson said.
