NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State University Horn Choir will perform on Monday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Attendance is limited due to School of Creative and Performing Arts guidelines. Masking and social distancing is required. A livestream of the concert will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.
The Horn Choir is conducted by Professor of Horn Dr. Kristine Coreil and includes student horn players, both music majors and non-majors.
The concert will feature a work by Eric Ewazen, “The Legend of the Sleeping Bear,” which tells the story of a mother bear fleeing with her cubs across Lake Michigan and forming the Sleeping Bear Dunes on the other shore. The legend originated with the Owibje tribe and was spread by the Chippewa people and other Native American tribes of the Wisconsin/Michigan region. Ewazen has captured the story in an arrangement for horn ensemble.
The Horn Choir will also perform classics such as the “Largo Al Factotum” aria from Rossini’s “Barber of Seville,” the “Habanera” and the “Toreador’s Song” from Bizet’s Carmen, and Brahms’s “Hungarian Dance No. 5.” Other works include a canon by Mozart, a fanfare by Perrini and a lively “La Chasse” by John Barrow.
