NATCHITOCHES – The NSU Jazz Orchestra will present a concert on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to follow university regulations and to wear a mask at all times in the building. A livestream will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream.
Galindo Rodriguez directs the Jazz Orchestra. John David Floyd is the graduate assistant conductor.
The program will include “Back in Town” by Joe D’Etienne with Taylor Pettus of Killen, Alabama, on alto saxophone and Mario Gomez Orellana of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on piano, “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue” by Lillian Hardin Armstrong and Don Raye and arranged by Mike Tomaro with Michael King of Pineville, Texas, on trombone, Blake Taggert of China Spring, Texas, on trumpet and Cristian Paez Geney of Cartagena, Colombia, on tenor saxophone, “Latin Dream” by D’Etienne with Pettus, Orellana and Juan Arrietta of Cartagena, Colombia, on flugelhorn and “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael and arranged by Sammy Nestico with Rodriguez on flugelhorn.
The Jazz Orchestra will also play “Secret Love” by Paul Francis Webster and Sammy Fain and arranged by Dave Wolpe with King, Evan Bryant of Benton and Jessica Deboise of Athens, Texas, on trombone “A Salute to Glenn Miller,” a medley of “Moonlight Serenade,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000” and “Little Brown Jug,” arranged by Jeff Hest featuring Daniel Scott of Benton on clarinet and “Coconut Champagne” by Dennis Di Blasio and adapted by Bob Lowden featuring Sebastian Oviedo of Cartagena, Colombia, on baritone saxophone and Sadoc Silva Calderon of Cartagena, Colombia, on trumpet.
