SHREVEPORT – Northwestern State University is continuing its tradition of honoring those who served in the nation’s Armed Forces by recognizing an active duty service member or veteran during each home football game. While not technically at home, Captain Kegan Davis was recognized during the Sept. 10 Shreveport Classic, which pitted the Grambling State Tigers against Northwestern’s Demons at Independence Stadium, Shreveport.
Davis graduated from Northern Kentucky University and commissioned through Xavier University in 2012. He served in the Army National Guard as a Field Artillery officer prior to joining the Reserve Component Directorate as a Liaison and Operations Officer for the Assistant Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Cadet Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. He recently joined Northwestern as an assistant professor of Military Science and ROTC instructor.
In 2013, Davis deployed to Jordan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His military schooling includes the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course, Field Artillery Captains Career Course, Human Resources Management Qualification Course, and the Master Educator Course. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Medal with M-Device, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with M-Device.
Davis is a certified teacher who taught seven years at Bernheim Middle School, Sheperdsville, Kentucky, prior to coming on active duty with the reserve component. As a military brat, he acknowledges it is difficult to pinpoint a hometown, but he calls Louisville home. On Saturday, he was joined by his wife, Tiffany, an instructor with NSU’s Department of Social Work, and their two young sons, Meyer and Wyatt. They were accompanied by his sister, Kathryn, and their father, Lieutenant Colonel John Davis, U.S. Army Retired. The Davis family was escorted by LTC Joshua Drake, NSU Professor of Military Science, and Dr. Marcus Jones, president of Northwestern.
