NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University will host a dual enrollment summit on March 30 for high school guidance counselors, graduate coaches, principals and other individuals who assist in the dual enrollment admissions process.
The deNSU College Access Summit will take place in the Hendrick Room in the NSU Student Union and will cover academic services, new dual enrollment resources and other important information, as well as a panel discussion on student success and retention. There will also be exhibits that focus on academic departments and networking opportunities. Participants will hear from administrators, students and staff who work in advising, recruiting, the Registrar’s office, disability services, instructional technology and student support and financial aid.
Early College Access or dual enrollment allows students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade to earn college credit while enrolled in courses taught by their high school teachers. Students can enroll in online courses directly through Northwestern or in traditional courses on NSU’s campus. Early college access students must be enrolled in a Louisiana public, private/parochial school or in a BESE-approved home study program
NSU currently partners with over 80 high schools statewide for dual enrollment with over 2,000 students enrolled in over 4,000 academic courses. Information on dual enrollment at NSU, requirement, criteria and more is available at https://www.nsula.edu/ece/dual-enrollment/.
“Whether you are seasoned secondary counselor or new to the deNSU program, this summit will provide practical tools and information to make the deNSU program easier to navigate, but most importantly help your students succeed,” said Gwen Fontenot, director of Electronic Learning & Global Engagement at NSU.
The deNSU Early College Access Summit is free to attend. Participants should register by March 24 by visiting the Eventbrite registration site: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/546155755567.
