NATCHITOCHES – A Pick Up Your Brush painting class and beginning ceramics class will begin Thursday at Northwestern State University. The non-credit classes are offered by NSU’s Office of Electronic Learning & Global Engagement will offer a Pick Up Your Brush painting class on Thursday, May 2 in South Hall.
The Pick Up Your Brush class will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in South Hall. A second class will be on Tuesday, June 18. The fee is $45 per class.
In the class, participants will learn the art of painting using step-by-step instructions to create a masterpiece. In the course, students will paint watermelon stripes on June 13 and a lemon branch on June 18. No special or prior skills are required. Students will take home a completed painting at the end of every class. Children ages 7 – 12 years old are allowed to enroll, but a parent must accompany the child the entire class. The parent does not have to enroll unless they participate.
Beginning ceramics is an introduction to working with clay. The student will learn hand-building and sculptural techniques, as well as work on the potter’s wheel. There will also be room for intermediate and advanced students to take the class who want to use the facilities during the class time. The class will be held in Room 113 of the Fine Arts Annex on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 8. The fee is $125 plus a $20 material fee paid directly to instructor first night of class.
