NATCHITOCHES – The NSU Percussion Ensemble will present their first of two spring concerts on Friday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Associate Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies Dr. Oliver Molina said the concert will consist of works that are visually appealing and musically satisfying. The ensembles range from marimba quartets to large percussion orchestras.
Pieces that will be performed are “Spine” by Michael Laurello featuring graduate student Miguel Bustillo, “Sai” by Hiroyuki Yamazawa, “Qi” by Augusta Read Thomas, “Watercolor Sun” by Ivan Treviño, and “Jazz” on Saturn by Casey Cangelosi. Students from this semester’s percussion methods class will be featured on a piece of their own. Molina said the future music educators will apply the knowledge learned in class for performance on stage with John Willmarth’s “Tentacles.”
