NATCHITOCHES – Pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa will perform at Northwestern State University on Friday March 19 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall.
The March 19 performance is for NSU students and faculty. Admission is free. The March 20 concert is for the general public. Tickets are $15. The audience is limited to 104 at each recital with masks and social distancing required.
Tamagawa’s appearances are part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Northwestern State Assistant Professor of Piano Dr. John Price and Associate Professor of Piano Dr. Francis Yang are co-directors of the of the Louisiana Piano Series International.
Tamagawa, a professor of music at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, will perform works by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.
He has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout North America, Europe and Asia. His collaboration with the late violinist Eugene Fodor resulted in over 30 recitals and a CD of violin and piano music, “Witches’ Brew.” Tamagawa has appeared with the Austin and Temple symphony orchestras and with orchestras in New England and Colorado.
Tamagawa has presented sessions at national conferences of the American String Teachers’ Association, College Music Society and the Music Teachers’ National Association, as well as state and regional conferences, including the Texas Music Educators’ Association, Texas Music Teachers’ Association and the College Music Society South Central Chapter. He is a past recipient of the Collegiate Teaching Award of the Texas Music Teachers’ Association and the 2016 Third Prize Winner of the American Prize Lorin Hollander Piano Concerto Award competition. His writings on musical topics have appeared in national journals, and his book “Echoes From the East: The Javanese Gamelan and its Influence on the Music of Claude Debussy” was published in 2019.
