Three courthouses have existed on this site, the first of which was built in 1860 and was used as Louisiana's Confederate Statehouse during the Civil War. The Neild & Somdal architectural firm designed the present building, which was constructed between 1926 and 1928. In 1905, a Confederate Memorial was built on the Texas Street side of the property. Although the Old South is celebrated in this statuary, the Caddo Courthouse became the site of the first Boy Scout Troop for African American children in Shreveport, established in the basement in the late 1950s. Several African American judges now preside at the Caddo Courthouse..
