Established on July 20th, 1938, by R.T. King Fish Fields, the Silver Moon Barbecue restaurant had a dozen employees on payroll by 1941. Locals recall the rich sauce and hickory-smoked barbecue ribs and chicken, noting that the smell of hickory smoke enticed customers from blocks away. The restaurant was managed by Mrs. M.E. Johnson, who later became the owner, and closed in the middle 1980s.
