Scott Street was famous in the 1960s as home to the Flamingo Club, a popular gathering place for local African Americans. Scott Street was home to star athletes Gary "Big Hands" Johnson, former player for Grambling State University, Louisiana Sports Hall of Famer, and Super Bowl MVP. Clarence Shelmon, another Scott Street local, was an assistant coach for the NFL Dallas Cowboys.
