NATCHITOCHES – Three Northwestern State University mathematics students competed against other college students in two separate mathematical competitions last week when NSU hosted the Louisiana/Mississippi section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. Kendall Fowler, center, tied for fifth place against 30 other students in an Integration Bee in which students were given integrals to solve. In group competition, Fowler, Abbie Mccann, left, and Kelsten Antoine, right, competed against 10 other teams answering mathematical questions. Key organizers of the 99th meeting of MAA’s LA/MS section at NSU were Professors of Mathematics Dr. Judith Covington, section chair, and Dr. Leigh Ann Myers, program chair. The Mathematical Association of America is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students and enthusiasts that strives to further the understanding of the world through mathematics because mathematics drives society and shapes lives. The mission of the MAA is to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact.
