Caddo Conference set for April 1-3

NATCHITOCHES – The 2022 Caddo Conference will be held on the Northwestern State University campus April 1-3. Archaeologists, ethnologists, historians and members of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma, whose tribal homeland is southwest Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, northwest Louisiana and East Texas, will gather to discuss ongoing research and cultural developments in Caddo culture.

Girard will speak to genealogy group about prehistoric canoe

NATCHITOCHES – Archaeologist Jeff Girard will be guest speaker at the Jan. 28 meeting of the Natchitoches Genealogical and Historical Association.  Girard will talk about finding a prehistoric dugout canoe on Red River, its excavation and preservation and putting it in context of the archaeology/prehistory of northwest Louisiana.
