NSU Theatre & Dance Current Students
- Only currently enrolled Northwestern State University and Bossier Parish Community College at NSU students can participate in Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance productions; however, there may be certain exceptions made regarding guest artists, young children, etc.
- Students must have a 2.5 Cumulative GPA to participate in Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance productions. A student may participate in one Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance production at a time with a 2.5 – 3.49 cumulative GPA. Students with a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA may participate in more than one Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance production at a time. Faculty reserve the right (with final approval of the Department Chair) to grant probations on GPA requirements and/or double casting.
- Students must be enrolled in and pass two University Core Classes a semester, until University Core is completed. Failure of a Core class will result in the student being removed from the production. Scholars should follow Scholars’ College recommendations.
- Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance casts performers based on the quality of the audition given, student performance in course work, and the actor’s compatibility for the role.
- Casting of Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance productions is centered on the abilities and needs of the students.
- Northwestern State University Theatre & Dance strives to stage productions that allow for diverse, multicultural and coalitional casting choices.
- We strive to take an inclusive approach towards questions of gender, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation and ability in casting.
- The Production Director makes final casting decisions (within capability of the program). All casting must be approved by the Department Chair before cast lists are posted.
- Northwestern State University Main Stage Season casting has precedence over the casting of Second Season productions. In certain instances, faculty may make certain allowances to this policy (with approval of Department Chair).
- Students may be permitted to withdraw from a production in extreme situations upon approval of Production Director and Department Chair.
- Production Directors agree to performer’s conflicts listed on the audition sheet upon posting of cast lists. Only in rare instances will performers be allowed a conflict after casting.
- Based on the percentage of diversity of our students auditioning for each production, the department strives to reflect the same percentage of diversity in our casting.
- Productions agree that a 10% minimum of the cast will be members that the director has never worked with before.
- We commit to re-examining these procedures continuously.
