NATCHITOCHES – The NSU Trumpet Studio Ensemble and NSU Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble will perform a concert on Wednesday, March 15 at 5:30pm in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream will be available at capa.nsula.edu/livestream. Galindo Rodriguez will conduct the Trumpet Ensemble. Dr. Masahito Kuroda will conduct the Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble.
The NSU Trumpet Studio Ensemble will play “Frippery #6” by Lowell E. Shaw, “Benjamin Britten” edited by Jay Lichtman, “The Merry Cuckoo” from “The Spring Symphony” featuring Josh Monaghan and Ivan Lorduy Camargo and “Conquest” by Eric Morals.
Members of the NSU Trumpet Studio Ensemble are graduate assistants Monaghan and Ted Scott and undergraduate students Camargo, Sadoc Silva Calderon, Jack Stanley, Konnor Taggert, Ever Naum Galleas, Griffin Howe, Juan Arrietta, Mallory England and Dillon Humphries.
The NSU Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble will play “Toccata for Euphonium-Tuba Quartet” by John Schooley, “I Will Walk With My Children,” by retired faculty member Richard Rose and “Back To The Future for Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble” by Alan Silvestri and arranged by Scott Sutherland.
“I Will Walk With My Children” was written for the Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble in 2019 by Rose, who taught violoncello, bass, music theory and composition, as well as orchestration. He has degrees from The University of Louisville and Florida State University. He was a cellist with the Louisville Orchestra while at The University of Louisville. Rose has served as principal cellist of area orchestras as well as conducting several orchestras including the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra. His major works are “Requiem”, “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra,” “Essay” for Wind Ensemble, and “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Rose has composed music for and served as musical director for several music theatre productions at NSU.
Members of the NSU Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble are Emily Murphey, Austin Head, Remi Blanchard, Cyrus Blount Jr., Jose Del Rio, Jordan Elliott, Reon Bell, Joseph Deboice, William Self, Hank Castilaw, Solon Burris, Dalton Wade, Matthew Fussell and faculty member Dr. John Dunn on euphonium. Playing tuba in the ensemble are Taylor Carrell, Matthew Spencer, Barrett Hodgson, John Collier, Caleb Santora, Wesley Clarke, Tyler Fields, Hannah Buckley and Garrett Carrell.
