NATCHITOCHES – The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System will meet in Baton Rouge at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18 to select the next president of Northwestern State University.
The Board will interview Louisiana Supreme Court Associate Justice James Genovese of Opelousas.
Genovese and one other finalist for the job, Dr. Jose Cantu, spent Tuesday, July 16 on campus for a series of forums with students, faculty/staff, alumni and stakeholders, followed by public interviews. At the end of the day, Genovese was named the final candidate after the search committee unanimously recommended him for the position. That decision must be approved by the Board of Supervisors Thursday.

Genovese is a 1971 graduate of NSU. He has been an associate justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court since 2017. He was a practicing attorney for 21 years before serving as a judge in the 27th Judicial District from 1995-2004 and a member of the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal from 2005-16.
