NATCHITOCHES – The Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern State University will host the second MSU Music Festival on Saturday, March 4.
The festival is an opportunity for students in piano, voice, strings, guitar and percussion to perform live and get feedback from judges. Students receive comments from festival judges and performances are rated as one of the following: superior plus, superior, excellent or good. Those that receive a superior plus rating can perform their pieces again in a Winners Recital. Students can also earn trophies as they accumulate points from year to year based on the ratings they receive.
“We started the festival last year as a way to provide more musical opportunities for young musicians in our vicinity,” said NSU music faculty member Dr. John Price, who is coordinating the festival with fellow faculty Dr. Francis Yang and Dr. Chialing Hsieh. “Last year we had young musicians participate from Natchitoches, Alexandria, Shreveport students and the surrounding areas. We look forward to seeing this event grow each year.”
Auditions will take place in the morning with a festival recital in the afternoon in Magale Recital Hall.
