The Antioch Baptist Church, founded by former slaves in 1866, is the oldest African American Baptist Congregation in Shreveport. The building, completed in 1903, was designed by Shreveport architect N.S. Allen in the Romanesque Revival style. In 1982, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Antioch community has been a strong voice in both social and civic affairs since the church was founded, and continues to place high priority on education and social activism.
